On the boston.com site, under "Sri Lanka and Its Long War", is an editorial by Ahimsha Wickrematunge in "The Leader", a Sri Lankan inde newspaper. He wrote it for publishing in case of his assasination by the government and it is a wonderful and chilling piece of writing. It should be required reading, not just for journalists, but for any citizen who gives more than a rat's rear end for democracy, decency, fairness and justice. As a U.S. citizen, I find it particularly alarming as well as pertinent.
