Because the world now fights malaria — ineptly — with nets, insecticides and drugs, a vaccine is desperately needed.

Actually the use of nets has been one of the recent high points in malaria prevention. I would not call some of the recent amazing improvements "inept". Nonetheless a vaccine would be good too.
