In drug testing, researchers look for what's called the LD-50 – how much do you have to give the test animals for it to be a Lethal Dose for 50% of them? For marijuana, there is no LD-50. Or, you could phrase it as "the LD-50 for marijuana is infinite" – you'd have to smoke an infinite amount of weed before you'd OD on it.

It is impossible to overdose on marijuana. Unlike most other drugs, there are no receptors on the brainstem that respond to marijuana. As a result, it's not possible for cannabis to suppress basic functions (like breathing and heartbeat) the way something as common and accepted as alcohol can: about 50,000 reported cases of alcohol poisoning occur each year, and about once a week someone dies from alcohol poisoning.

I didn't smoke marijuana until I was 38 years old and by that time I was a full blown red neck running wild caught up in that fast lane. Oh yea I new how to make money and all that good stuff but there was something missing. I also will have to admit that I was a full fledge alcoholic with that alcoholic attitude that one develops with the disease. Speaking only for myself I would have to say that marijuana saved my life because it slowed me down enough for me to realize the error of my ways and I realized that I had to make changes within myself in order to have a more fulfilling life with some real meaning to it other than being successful in that fast lane and making money. I actually slowed down enough to make those changes needed not only for my benefit but the people around me benefited as well. It allowed me to see that things in life are not just black and white, there are shades of gray in between. As I have stated before in comments I have made about how anger and alcohol can cut a wide swath of destruction in both directions from the damage they cut. I suppose for one to understand what I mean you would have to be looking through my eyes. I would have to say that marijuana has given me a better understanding and insight of not only myself but of others as well. I have never seen any negative effect from marijuana like the negative effects that alcohol produces. If you O.D. on marijuana you lay down and take a nap! I am now and have always been a advocate for the legalization of marijuana.
I am now in my 65 year and if I have any regrets in life I would have to say that if I could eliminate any single element in my life it would be alcohol. Not marijuana!
