This site is consistently funnier than the parody sites.

This is just terrible. Frightening and horrifying reading. I've seen/read/heard a lot of mentions of the plight of US citizen Padilla different places 'round the net for a long time. This is just frightening.

Oh, poor baby.
Have you read the statements of this subhuman?
Unbelievable.

So Godfrey, are now suggesting that torture be legalized depending on the type of person being held? Is that the new standard you'd propose? And i suppose that would then be an adequate worldwide standard, since the U.S. is so adamant about its ways being adopted elsewhere.

Sorry, but that is a system that disgusts me and does not make me feel any bit safer.

However subhuman he may be, we should not condone subhuman treatment of him. Never!!

You have bought another redefinition. I'm still foolishly clinging to the long standing understanding of torture.
12-18-2006 4:55 PM
Godfrey Daniel
Notice how the article's author understands that you will be emotionally affected by his cynical conflation of descriptions of torture with the non torturous treatment of Padilla, causing you to inappropriately associate the two?
12-18-2006 5:01 PM
thisnamecantbetaken
Non-torturous?!? Does it have to bleed first to be torture??? It really truly frightens me, that there are people who think like you in the world. Truly it does.

Torture is not the only "thing" on this clip that disgusts me...
12-18-2006 5:13 PM

Regardless of whether or not you think the treatment of Padilla constitutes torture, what is truly frightening is that the government has inflicted prolonged sensory deprivation on him before he has been tried and convicted for any crime.

What IS the world coming to. What are we becoming? It all makes me so terribly sad and frustrated, that humanity no longer seems to want to be humane at all...

God help us all.

So, peace and quiet is now torture? What next? How long before the captivity itself is seen as torture? (my guess is not long)
12-18-2006 5:44 PM
beaukivi
Let's hope no one imposes this sort of peace and quiet on you, my friend. I dont think you would like it. Then perhaps you too would lose your mind, but then again, maybe it would make no difference in your case.

I have severe tinnitus, I never have silence. If silence is so bad, maybe they could make a computer simulation of the ringing you hear when you have tinnitus and let them listen to that twenty four hours a day.

Regarding this administrations and its apologists: the ends never justify the means. The means become the ends.

I'm sorry but situational ethics just does not cut it. Never has, never will.

This has nothing to do with this admin. The redefinition of torture currently underway would make all preceding admins "guilty". This silliness is result of leftist activism, the complicity of the news media, and the dumbed down, wussified state of the culture.

Too many boys raised on daycare, ritalin, PC indoctrination in schools, TV, and the devolving pop culture in general.

I am amazed that you can type with that blindfold so firmly in place. Ya, I know, if you had your way there would be only the "approved" media sources reporting and/or commenting.

I know that you are not a Fascist ..... but perhaps its time for a little reflection on your part.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then some may get the wrong impression.

Cheers

I believe t is widely known that prolonged sensory deprivation will cause severe psychological damage to individuals. Eric Rudolph (no leftist activist he), for example, is saying that he can feel his sanity erode due to his "supermax" confinement.

"The redefinition of torture currently underway would make all preceding admins "guilty"."
What absolute nonsense.

You are presuming that I have sympathy for Eric Rudolf?

I have none.

n2sooners
Our country has undergone a not so civil war, slavery, running the natives off their land, carpet bombing, nuking two major cities, the wholesale slaughter of the unborn, and you are worried that the sensory deprivation of a person who would have had no remorse whatsoever his actions resulted in the death of your spouse and children is going to put a stain on our country?
12-18-2006 6:38 PM
thisnamecantbetaken
Oh, the stain is already there. No doubt about it! A big red bloody, inhumane filthy stain for allowing things like the described to happen.

From an article so wisely clipped by Socratoad is this second point regarding what defines fascisme:

"2. Disdain for the importance of human rights. The regimes themselves viewed human rights as of little value and a hindrance to realizing the objectives of the ruling elite. Through clever use of propaganda, the population was brought to accept these human rights abuses by marginalizing, even demonizing, those being targeted. When abuse was egregious, the tactic was to use secrecy, denial, and disinformation."

(The first and third points are nationalism and scapegoating)
12-18-2006 6:52 PM
thisnamecantbetaken
Human rights should apply to Padilla too, no matter what , or I'm afraid that..... quack quack!

I have none.
Whether or not one has sympathy for Eric Rudolph is irrelevant. The issue is whether or not these methods have deleterious consequences for the individuals they are inflicted upon. Contrary to your assertions, it is clear they do. Furthermore, they should not be applied to a person who has not been convicted of a crime (whether or not they should be applied to Rudolph is another issue).

I agree, and also it has to have a deleterious affect on those applying such immoral measure and hence upon the society in general that in any way condones these practices, either explicitly or implicitly

I can only hope that if I ever find myself in a foxhole fighting for my life, it will include Godfrey Daniels and n2sooners, the rest of you, I fear, would be hiding with the French behind the Maginot Line debating the ethics of defending yourselves!

Sparlingphoto, are you saying that people who approve of torture are better soldiers? Many in the military do feel that torture violates what they stand for. Are they cowards?

@sparlingphoto Well...at least the rest of us HAVE ethics!

You can try to duck and weave all you like with blah blah rhetoric. Your contempt for everything decent and humane is apparent. Either you support torture & the MCA, or you don't. You have made it perfectly clear where you stand on this issue. Disgusting! May God have mercy on your souls. You're gonna need it.
12-21-2006 1:15 PM
Godfrey Daniel
True, the effort to eliminate all things decent and humane is the prime purpose and on-going work that I, Will, and our co-conspirators pursue relentlessly in our service to The Evil Emperor Chimp. And, as he is wont to say, It's hard work.

Oh my, now you've done it..GWB's secret most high and magickal name...in print. Godfrey, you're in soooo much trouble for letting the cat out of the bag. Only a select few know that GWB is The Evil Emperor Chimp. I think you've been spending to much time with the insurgents around here.
