Thank goodness Belgium has been rescued from political obscurity and irrelevance!

Is anyone impressed by the fact that Belgium just didn't need it's government for 6 months? Imagine if that had happened in America? We'd be looting Wallmart on day 3.

(Although I, personally, would be looting Wallmart on day 0, because that's what I do on my spare time.)

At any rate, waffle lovers (and I suppose swift boat veterans for truth) can now rest easy.

The feud between Flanders and Wallonia, ostensibly over why Dr. Seuss was allowed to name their territories, can finally be laid to rest! Except for that they hate each other, and there's a ridiculous wealth gap, and they are both presumably frustrated by their own irrelevance.

And this came just in time! If they'd gone on another 8 days with no government, at the 200 day mark, the US would have invaded them!

After all, a power-vacum in Belgium could become a breeding ground for terrorist, with Al Qaeda training camps absorbing all the unsavory Muslims getting kicked out of Denmark and the Netherlands.

And what is more, our intelligence estimates show no evidence that the massive Belgian stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction have been disposed of, and that they have abandoned their plans to create an atom bomb in the shape of the adorable Manneken Pis! If Belgian continues to prevent the UN inspectors from doing their job, we will have no choice but to invade!

Did I say terrorist training camps?

I mean Trappist training camps.

Trappists make BEER not BOMBS!

(By the way, if anyone wants to put that on a T-Shirt, I'll buy one!)

I do not really know how our political crisis got perceived abroad, but sometimes I get the idea it's been a bit overblown. It's nothing like Kosovo or Palestina here. Just part of our typical surreal Belgian politics. Most of us do not hate each other, we're not on the verge of a civil war.
I realize it must be painful trying to comprehend Belgian politics. I've been living here 25 years and I still don't get it.

The fact that we lived through without a federal government for almost 200 days isn't that surprising. Due to our specific political situation we've still got 5 other governments fighting each other over who gets to rule us.

Anyway, I'd enlist to any trappist training camp right ...

Be careful what you say, that could be construed as confirming reports of WMDs. Anyway, just because they came from America doesn't get you guys off the hook! Where do you think Sadam got his from? Anyway, if WWIII is going to start anywhere, it might as well be Belgium, since you guys were so great for WWI and WWII.

Rest assured Djiezes, your nation's political crisis isn't being percieved at all abroad at all. I am just slightly lampooning American bufoonerey. To give you an idea of the international stir it is causing, I would imagine most Americans couldn't accurately find Belgium on the map. (Don't take it personally, I'm sure many would also have trouble finding America on a ...

lol, I'm fully aware the Belgium isn't even able to cause a stir in international politics.
Your strategies of lightening up the political atmosphere are certainly praiseworthy. (though you might want to start with beer)

...

As to the WMD's and WW's. Why do you think we've been demonstrating for years @ Kleine Brogel ? We've got a certain experience in enduring World Wars and want to stop a third one from happening.

I pop for Djiezes being self-governed for 6 months. Good job running yourself!

The thing is, even though Belgian politics may be surreal and dysfunctional, there is a certain level of civilized decorum, as long as you don't ask Yves LeTerme to speak French. (And with a name like that who could expect him to know any French? Absurd!)

lol, thanks mousie.

Actually, Leterme is almost perfectly bilingual (Dutch/French) as his father is from Wallonia.
But he does have a certain 'knack' in offending our fellow Walloon citizens. And oh yeah, don't ask him to sing the National Anthem.

Oh, of course, I was alluding to his dificulties singing in French.

Leterme, I believe, officially has the most rediculous Oedipal Complex of any elected official in the world, just barely beating out current President, George W. Bush of the USA.
