I'd like to know what Oprah thinks of it. Given the hugely ugly history of race relations (both in the US and Europe), and in particular the treatment of Saartjie Baartman, I find his choice of how to represent Oprah's body offensive. Race, gender, body – these are highly emotional, highly charged issues. All artists who choose to work in these areas would do well to treat these issues with care, and an artist who's white and male should use even more care. I Like It! |
