Marcariel says: I had my last child (2nd marriage, mid-life baby) at age 40. I can comment with authority on this one. I agree with the professor in the article ... "I am shocked by the idea of a 66-year-old woman giving birth." Nowadays with our technology a lot of things that at one time were impossible are now possible. This woman is only 66 years old. at one time she would have been considered very old, not today. She has an excellent chance of still being extremely healthy when she's in her late 80's or even into her 90's. When she reaches say 90 or 95, her child will be in his/her mid-to-late 20's.Men are regularly becoming fathers when they're in their 7o's or 80's even. Leave her alone or congratulate her. I agree ... if that's what she really wants. But, if you read the article, she could have psychological reasons to want a baby this late in life. This type of reasoning can propel many women (not just the older women) to have a baby for all the wrong reasons. The only one who suffers is the child! More power to her if she really wants a child for the right reasons ... but from what was reported, it doesn't sound like it. |
