shaor says: Sorry, but I still feel they should stick to the old law ang hang them at sea! And it would save us taxpayers a lot of money. Do we also hang the people from the mining companies who polluted their land and dumped the machinery off the coast; and the foreign fishermen who took advantage of Somalia's lack of a coast guard and fished out the waters? These people became pirates because the alternative was begging, thanks to foreign exploitation. The piracy had to be stopped but the exploiters should also be made to pay for their crimes. Fat chance of that when the exploiters also pull the strings of the politician puppets. The pirates escalated the danger to Captain Phillips life when they fired on him when he tried to escape from the lifeboat. (that was attempted murder.) The order should have been given by Cmdr. Frank X. Castellano of the USS Bainbridge to blow the lifeboat out of the water. The Bainbridge is a guided missile warship. Obama was needlessly involved and unnecessarily complicated the whole incident. He's not qualified to make tactical military decisions. I therefore conclude that you are not concerned by companies raping the land and leaving it polluted. You must also feel that the people who raided their fisheries and wiped them out were not doing the wrong thing. Worst of all, you expect these exploited people to just lie down and starve. The guy may be a kid - he may be 16 - and he may have been forced into participation - which would explain his eagerness to surrender to get away from the others. This eagerness for revenge that so characterizes American response is savage and, from those who profess to serve a God who says, "Vengeance is mine," rank hypocrisy. Revenge is not justice. |
