No, there's nothing wrong with picking on smokers. They're the ones who decided to become smokers, and they can stop being smokers any time they decide to.

Now, there's nothing wrong with having the freedom to smoke, but you just have to do something about that "exhaling toxic, carcinogenic fumes" into the air the rest of us have to breathe.

You chose to smoke. We chose not to smoke. By what egotistical gall do smokers presume that their right to smoke trumps our right to not have to breathe those poisons?

When you come down to it, smokers are addicts. If you aren't going to get treatment to stop, then at least make sure you smoke somewhere that no one who chose not to smoke has to breath...

smoking sucks!- wish i could quit!!! a friend of mine who still lives up in alaska was lamenting the fact that bulk tobacco costs over 100.00 a pound up there now- think she said 125.00 lb. to roll your own up there......
oh well- i will end up quitting 1 way or the other- quitting by death- or just getting my head out of my hiney and actually growing a set and quitting!

You could invest the money you spend on cigarettes on a program to quit. Have you tried gum or patches at all? That's just the thing; there is no shortage of good, doctor-led programs for quitting out there, so there's no real reason for a smoker to not be at least attempting to quit. Trying is the first step. And don't let it discourage you if you fail, because you can always try again with a new program. Doctor-run programs have a very good success rate, though.

dang i just tried to comment on this- but when i hit the coment button- it just disappeared- in a nutshell what i said is thank you darkeforce- you have gotten through my thick- weenie-weak-doodle brain..and I will vow to make quitting smoking my goal- a very good thing you have done here- i have tried in the past to quit....but have let my weakness and force of habit keep me from being successful in this - heck i have quit most every thing else and it is long overdue I drop this shitty habit as well- thanks man- you hav done a great thing
the only reason i clipped this story-was for the folly of this fellow- he is going to have a heck of a time trying to dry all his tobacco- etc- is what i ...

Remember that there's nicotine gum and patches, so you don't have to rely on willpower alone.

Good luck. I'll be rooting for you.

I can now say that I think I have the smoking problem I had, beaten. I promised my 8 year old granddaughter that I would quit. I tried and tried, but with no success. Once in a while she`d remind me. Well, I`ve always told my grandchildren that you should always try and keep a promise. So, I tried a new but expensive treatment for 2 wks. That`s all I could afford. My last cigarette was on the 23rd of February. I have not had a cigarette since. I may start again someday. I hope not because I still have a craving once in a while. It can be done. Good luck to you if you try.

Just keep some nicotine gum with you for those times when you have cravings. That will satisfy the craving, but is much, much safer than smoking. I know that in Canada at least there are doctor-run programs for quitting that are free (other than the cost of nicotine gum or patches; but you have money free that you aren't spending on cigarettes as much, right? )
