The more difficult question is why do you suppose the AIDS rate is rising faster among certain ethnic groups? You know...I wish someone knew the answer to that question debby. I think there are a plethora of "reasons" why: Probably a greater propensity to use drugs and engage in riskier sexual behavior. Less access to healthcare and health education. Less parental involvement. I don't know...these are just some of my guesses. Sigh . . . One does tend to get kinda bummed out from a crappy educational system, low or non-existent health care and bad unemployment Kimble, which does lead to more lucrative things such as drug trade or the use of drugs which do give you a temporary "escape" from the harshness of life that few of us experience on a daily bases as minorities do. Not to mention the homophobia and stigma in our society in general which can cause some people not to disclose their sexual orientation. Again, when are we going to spend our monies on programs that educate others to the use of condoms to prevent STD's, sex education, oh hell better education in general, (let's just shoot for the moon) and other S... You know why we (as in our government) don't that stuff debby? Because it makes too much sense!  Yeppers. AND the rich would have to pay their fair share. |
