raven714 says: On Sunday, the group presented a stone prototype of the Great Pyramid at a Great Pyramid Festival in Streetz, a small village north of Dessau. Pritzker-winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas is set to lead the jury for choosing a final design for the project, according to several reports. Students under Heiko Holzberger at Weimar Bauhaus University in Germany conducted a technology feasibility study that concluded the project is viable, according to the Great Pyramid Web site. The project has been given starter funding by the "Future of Labor" program of the government-backed German Federal Cultural Foundation. As part of the group's business plan, the structure would be built up and out incrementally so that stones are added only as people buy placement in the pyramid. Though not the tallest, the Great Pyramid of Cholula in Mexico is in fact the world's largest pyramid, having a 1/3 more volume than the one at Giza. This pyramid they are building, they are claiming to be the biggest ever built. There is scale in the photos that I clipped that compare the two pyramids, however it only said "The great pyramid" and I am assuming that was the one they was comparing it too. Nevertheless it will be enormous in mass, from what the photos show. Given that they referenced the Giza pyramid in the text, and in the comparison diagram there's Cheops pyramid, it's safe to say that "The Great Pyramid" is referring to Khufu's. I just thought I would mention the Mexican one. The enormity does seem huge. I just wonder if they'll have trouble selling spots if they're admittedly only building incrementally as needed. Oh wait, never-mind that. I generally only know it as the Khufu pyramid. I now realize Khufu is also called Cheops. So yeah, it may in fact be the Cholula pyramid. I dunno. I was just thinking, it is $960.oo for a spot, but when you kick the bucket, you still have to pay for the transport to get you there. No need for overnight express just put me in the regular mail. lol I wonder what the maximum capacity of the structure will be. Also I wonder if the higher up you go will it cost more money. I want the spot on the top. The very top! lol Corner spots would be prolly be pricey too! I looked at their website, and they've sold a good number already. And I was thinking about that comparison picture again...I'm assuming the last 2 pyramids are both "The Great Pyramid" being proposed in Germany, just in the incremental stages mentioned. It obviously shows the Cheops one, and since it's the tallest, there's no way it could be the Mexican one. Perhaps those figures shown (10,000,000 & 100,000,000) are the capacities at those stages of construction? Perhaps those figures shown (10,000,000 & 100,000,000) are the capacities at those stages of construction?Perhaps if so that would be astonishing, especially when you multiply that by $960... Phenomenal! |
