Why? This much ado about nothing. Has anyone thought about the fact that this is more of a Global North/South thing that really has nothing to do with Obama?

I mean NY didn't get the last bid, and that had nothing to do with Bush.

It was about time a South American nation got to host the games. Good for Rio.

Stupid right-commentators. I mean can you get more dense that this?

Of course not.

This is from the Times in London, not written in the USA. If someone in London is saying that, then I'd think the Obama's popularity in Europe has tanked which means it will be more difficult for Americans overseas and eventually if not already, it will reach back to us here in the USA.

The Times, you mean the Murdock rag? Yeah, right.

This would have nothing to do with Obama if Obama hadn't injected himself into the process. Before Obama it was projected that Chicago was a strong number two with an outside chance to win. After Obama it was predicted that Chicago was the front runner. Chicago got voted out in the first round.

If he had stayed out of the debate, there would have been speculation about what might have happened if he had gone. People would still believe that he could have some type of influence. By going and then being soundly defeated, it has been shown that he has no influence.

His the President, his job is to push for these things. The fact is that Madrid was looking particularly strong in the first round and lost to Rio anyway. Again, this is hardly anything to do with Obama, who didn't make the kind of stupid pronouncements Chirac did when Paris was competing with London.

And of course the Times can gloat since London already has its games, again.

Obama did what all the other national leaders did, including Zapatero and Lula, they showed up to lobby for their countries.

Name another president that has done it.

Face it, no matter how much you worship the guy, this was an embarrassment. If Chicago had finished at least a close second then it wouldn't have been such a big deal, but to finish dead last shows he has no influence whatsoever.

Worship? Yeah, right.....

There was no dead last. Four cities, one chosen. Do you have the vote break down per city? BTW, I was referring, if you didn't catch that in last message, to the other nations Presidents, who were also present in the hall when the decision was made.

Obama did the right thing, but because the right hates all things Obama, they are willing to celebrate a national loss, because the city that hosts the Olympics does it in the name of the whole nation.

There was no dead last.
It is done just alike a beauty pageant, the lowest score is named first.

I was referring, if you didn't catch that in last message, to the other nations Presidents, who were also present in the hall when the decision was made.
So, like since all the cool leaders are doing it, then he should totally be doing it too....

willing to celebrate a national loss
It wasn't a national loss. It was a loss by one corrupt, broke, US city whose own citizens were torn over the idea. I really wouldn't care if Chicago were to get the Olympics as long as I knew my tax dollars wouldn't be paying for it. So this isn't a celebration of any...
