If a bunch of people where hazing a kid and in his panic an accident occurred that cost him his life the religious community would be up in arms. But using ritualistic chants based on bronze age ignorance that leads to the death of a child because they choose fantasy over reality is ok?

They turn a blind eye and start making excuses. They ignore the facts and cling religiously to their belief. It's mass hypnosis on a very destructive level.
