enbar says: Interesting that this happens while there's also a debate going on over whether it should be OK to include positive portrayals of same-sex couples in educational materials aimed at this age group. I suppose there are those who'd say that a 14-year-old boy who wears mascara to school deserves whatever he gets, but personally I have some trouble with that position. I suppose there are also those who'd say that there's nothing wrong with allowing 14-year-olds access to firearms, either. The owners of the gun should be charged with criminal negligence. Enbar, why do you suppose that forcing your ideology is the answer? Why not better education on the proper meaning and application of tolerance instead of the continual division by incorrect understandings of tolerance? Why use this tragic circumstance as a springboard for some ideology? All the assumptions you suppose in your comment I adamantly oppose. I just cannot for the life of me understand how we got to a place in this world where it seems the only way to fight intolerance is with intolerance. Wait, I missed the part where I was advocating fighting intolerance with intolerance. I know you hate being asked for clarification, but can you break it down for me? Remember I'm a little slow. You're right, enbar. It was my imagination. My comment was mainly focused on the fact that you seemed to take the opportunity of this disaster to point out cultural and political differences that do not necessarily logically follow. The fighting intolerance with intolerance comment was broadly focused - not directed at you. My reaction has to do with the fact that I recently ran across this quotation from Randy Thomasson in World Net Daily (I realize this isn't new, but I'm only now seeing it): The so-called "public schools" are no longer a safe emotional environment for children. Under the new law, schoolchildren as young as kindergarten will be sexually indoctrinated and introduced to homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality, over the protests of parents, teachers and even school districts.A little further down on the same page, Randy Moore of Project Exodus is quoted as saying: By leaving your children [in public sch... One of the issues in Columbine was an anti-Christian, anti-"jock" mindset. Now I do not know the sexual preference of those that shot up that school but I doubt education about Christianity, Christians and Athlete's lifestyles would have made much of a difference in their mind. I do not see an irony here. I see a tragedy. I see parents that failed their child and their community. I see a kid twisted on hate which is probably a result of the constant division that continues to be forced onto us. clip. Who teaches these values to the children...We Do. @willhelm -- well, that's a good point as far as it goes, but there's no evidence that I know of that Kliebold and Harris's grudge against mainstream society had anything to do with sexual orientation. They went after everyone -- jocks, yes, but also African Americans. But still, I see what you're saying. My point is just that while people like Project Exodus are complaining about the moral "danger" their kids are in from the public-school environment, GLBT kids actually in real, physical, concrete danger of getting, say, killed. |
