einbar says: This is a very important comment by deadcowkid for the clip: 'Brain That Changes Itself" http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/378F24A4-D35D-43A7-9FF4-3C3BCF2C2CA5/ . I thank him for telling such an inspiring story. "He said the brain was misunderstood and capable of repairing itself. He told me to give it three good years". As a recovering alcoholic, my main concern was my liver. That has regenerated more than it is supposed to, if the 10% I was told was the best I could hope for under perfect conditions. I also found my thinking processes were dysfunctional. There was no way I could drive, for instance. I used the same processes I had tried to encourage as a teacher and I suppose taught my brain to function. I have problems which I happily live with. I would say that there must have been some regeneration of the brain for functionality to happen as well as it is now. (I know some would successfully argue that I had simply retrained my brain.) I don't care either way. Yes, two inspiring stories. Also great examples of the relationship between body, brain and mind. POPPED. Great commentary and clip. Very encouraging. A lot of the recent research seems to show that neurogenesis can be lifelong, and the brain can rewire and adapt itself amazingly. And, of course, being physically active and moving helps with neurogenesis. thanks for drawing our attention to this, einbar. I'd have missed an important comment otherwise. |
