LOL mousie... We should consider every possible explanation and I'll keep this one on mind. After all, ink shortage looks like a much more "materialistic" approach than "the winter solstice of the year 13 Baktun".

Ah, btw, solstice 2012 is not the date of "apocalypse" according to Mayans, but the end of a "world age".

I've always understood it to mean a big change vs. obliteration, but I guess an apocalypse would be a big change.

I must admit I agree with "apocalypse=big change" argument. The only paradoxal thing is, there will be nobody to look around say "Wow, what a big change it was!", after the apocalypse.
