I bought my first computer about 9 years ago Tany and while I wasn't a senior, I still was completely illiterate to the point of not knowing how to turn the thing off. I had to teach myself everything and even though it was difficult at the time, I'm proud of how I can fix almost every issue thrown in my path. You'll get there soon too

@tanyamm - I agree with debbyski. I use to hate computers and everything they represented. I learn as I go too and keep learning all the time. Today I would be lost without my computer and it has become a real asset to me in so many ways. I bought mine 3 years ago and my friend said just use it and you will soon become accustom to how it works. she said you can't really break it unless you throw it. I think the same holds true with the cell phone too. Also there are a lot of good people here on clipmarks who will also help you along the way if you have a problem. Good luck! I just learned how to do the smiles and that is a great thing, Thanks to chestnut501.

Ofcapri and Tany,
I had an "event" book and that is how I first learned along with tech support, but within a short period of time, I was much better than tech support. Now, I just Google any issues although I use a lot of software to keep the computer running smoothly. A program I really like is GoBack and I suppose one could argue that XP has it's own little program called system restore but GoBack is so much better. If something happens to the computer you can go back to a time when it was working better and restore it to that state. One should disable system restore when installing GoBack. I think Norton bought GoBack and it's available with their antiviral programs, although I do...
