And that was over 10 years ago in the USA. Thanks to our corrupt leadership we are all just a few bucks away from the same fate.

Yeah. This leadership is responsible for your financial situation. Take some responsibility.

People are homeless because they are irresponsible ?
Responsibility involves choice. Homeless are clearly not given much choice. I'm sure homeless see destitution as a great career opportunity. The people with the money and power . They don't set any kind of example. When was the last time remembered that, to have a productive society there needs to be freedom, and an economy. Wealth gives people the power to manipulate the economy. They are not a charity, they just collect money under false pretenses. I haven't seen a noble politician in my lifetime, and prior nobility can be created as a result of witnesses dying of old age. Cure the homeless problem by putting half in prison for loiterin...

Responsibility does still have meaning today. But unfortunately it has shifted from the personal kind to government and employers.

I couldn't have said it better, myself. That statement could well sum up the last 17 years of American culture (maybe more, but I wouldn't know, wasn't paying much attention past that point).

Not referring to all homeless, no. More to those at hand who are so beaten, burdened , and thieved by the current clowns in charge.
There are many who are incapable of getting it together for whatever reason. Mental illness, actually being ripped off, and worse in other parts of the world. And other circumstances beyond control, without avenues to pick themselves back up again. I find the biggest cry babies right here in America (or equally prosperous corners of the world) where we've got it just about the best around.

If you really are free- -as you are--and you're just talkin'.
THAT is what I mean.
Cure the homeless problem by putting half in prison for loitering, or
in concentration camps, and tell them how lucky they are. Reminds me of
"The Projects"
Are you dreaming?

I'm guilty of exaggeration and sarcasm, but I've also been crazy, sick and homeless, often at the same time. I may be crazy now, but I know it doesn't take long to start thinking homelessness is natural. Options keep seeming less clear and 'Society' can be a dim memory. Of course it's better to work and get paid enough to live, but after a while people with nothing can forget the meaning of the words self respect. I had to have the options pointed out that were enough to give me entry into society, and I was lucky there was a place for me. It seems that for so many homeless people there is no place.
The reason I was cynical about some government is because I've worked for the public service...

I too was homeless pokkets for a short time. Most people will never know the fear and shame the homeless face. The cold nights and risk of arrest because you have no place to lay your head down.Plain old guts and being stubborn got me out of it,but I don't think I could do it again, not at my age, and I still have nightmares. The last homeless guy I came upon, I gave $26 to.It was all I had on me.
