michellezm says: "Fritzl's madness derives from an utter inability to comprehend the affective and emotional impact of what he has done. He knows it was wrong, but he will never know why it matters so much to the rest of society." I am utterly haunted by this case. Yes michelle, it is a nitemare unlike any other horror I have heard about. Terrifies me in fact. I try to imagine how it must have been for her: her father, the one man who was supposed to protect her from the evil of the world...inflicted unrelenting physical, emotional and psychological crimes against her. And the loniliness down there....just unspeakable. I can hardly bring myself to read these stories, but i figure if she lived through it, we can at least witness her return to life. I hope they kill him so they could at least study his brain and perhaps glean SOMETHING of value from him ....but I doubt that will happen. One more tragic example of abuse begetting abuse. What rips at my heart is that this poor woman never had a chance in life. It was stolen from her at the starting point. And what is profoundly moving is that she, despite it all, appears to have been a good mother to her children. I am amazed that she is still functional. I would give anything if it were possible to make it 'all better'. I wonder if she will ever experience a measure of peace and relative happiness. I'm praying for that. The sheer cruelty of her ordeal is so beyond my comprehension. She haunts me. |
