I found this article via Google News, so you'd better read it with caution and scepticism.

Relying on any ONE thing is bad no matter what it is.

I also tend to disagree with this part:
dulled students’ sense of curiosity and is stifling debate.
With all the "personalized truths" out there, there seems to be more debate on what the "truth" is than ever. If you know where to look, of course and that's the issue. How do you know, other than through experience and a bit of common sense (and trust), which sources can be relied on and which can't? I mean, these days, look at all the things "official sources" ask us to believe. Is a little lone blogger any less reliable than a major news reporter, just because he's "little"?

"When in doubt - check Wiki"

Wikipedia is not always correct either. Nothing beats the good old-fashion library and books!

I was joking.
Old is the keyword in your comment.
Information canges rapidly and tho you could argue that opinion gets in the way, it is often what stirs new thoughts and ideas.
Google is a source for finding things based on search terms, the results YOU choose are from various sources.
Google is not the library, its the index

True, Wikipedia isn't alway correct. However, depending on the topic, ie. (First Council of Nicea, French Revolution, etc.) there always seem to be links to more in depth, academically sound information. As usual, however, your mileage may vary.

This reminds me about hearing of an engineering prof who forbids calculators in his classes and demands that his students use slide rules (yes, you can still get those) instead. His reason is to give his students used to having to estimate rather than being spoonfed an answer correct to 26 decimal places.

If the answer is 26 decimal places why not use the knowledge. Just because knowledge is available easily it should be ignored? As you may or may not know, manufacturing, medicine and navigation is now a very precise measurement. If NASA estimated the Voyager or Rover trajectories do you think we would know what we do today? Yes, there are times when an estimate or a guess will do but those times are becoming few and far between. Except for personal things.

If students are seeking information of specific natures for learning they should be using Google Scholar anyway. Everyone knows that, don't they?
