They prevent banks from knowing how much money they have to lend - so banks cut way back on lending - until businesses that depend on them can't make payroll.

I suspect that more than one glass has poison in it. I'm of the opinion that people just don't want to accept how much of the so-called "wealth" that was generated over the last couple of decades is going to have to be just written off the books because it's vanished into the vapor from which it was magicked.

The whole economy's been a fraud & a ponzi scheme and it's all coming undone.

But people think the system can be fixed if we just tweak this button and adjust that dial. I think the entire machine is much more fundamentally flawed than that.
