I live in Southeast MO, Swamp-east MO. I've seen snapping turtles all my life. What they have in England is a common snapping turtle, Alligator snapping turtles have spikes on the shell and I saw one that weighed 100 pounds. By the way, they're an endangered species in the U.S. They hiss, they have what appears to be a worm in their mouths that they can extend to draw fish near, the alligator snapping turtle is an ill-tempered turtle. The large ones can hold onto a broom handle and only let go when they're ready.
