For more than a year, I have worked solely for tips at one of my regular venues (long complicated story, but there it is). Even when people applaud me for doing my shows for free and they rarely ever pony up so much as a dollar for meager tip. People really do like getting something for nothing. But, on the upside, when I do get paid, every dime is mine ('cept for Uncle Sam's cut) since my business is my own (it's not a franchise of someone else's business). So, I totally dig what Radiohead is doing here. Just goes to show that some celebs are not all greedy! Oh please they are totally part of the music industry machine (they were created by it afterall). They will continue to get residuals for radio play (they write most of the stuff) and they have gotten so much media coverage from this it will build the hype for their overpriced concert tickets. Service fees and $7 beers will keep the machine quite happy for a while. My mistake for not fully looking into the facts on this one. |
