Just who are the Czechs calling the missile defense shift a betrayal?

The general public may be less disappointed, as polls show as much as 80 percent of the Czech population opposes a U.S. shield system in their country.
Factoid proudly supplied by FAUX News.

You should try reading the articles you clip for a change.

BobbyRutan, I did read it. That is why I clipped it. The same story is also reported the same in numerous other news sources. Maybe you should read some of them before making your comments.

Those would be propagandist sources whose intent is to smear.

If they were news sources the titles would read.

Czech citizens rejoice that missile defense system will not be on their soil!
The same would go for the Poles as only 36% supported the idea of the missile defense system being on the land.

Michael Steele will be sending you your check any day now, or would that be Glenn Beck?

But wait, wasn't the so called "missile defense" directed at Iran? How can it then be a betrayal of the U.S. in favor of the Russians? Unless that was a very flimsy excuse and it was all about Russia to begin with.

Goodbye to bad rubbish. And I bet you that not everybody in either country agrees with their leaders on the subject. And besides, both nations are NATO members, which have invested billions in upgrading their defenses, as have both governments. Considering that the Russian armed forces are a shadow of their former selves, these statements are exaggeration at best, gross lies at worse.

That missile defense system was to be aimed at Russia...it had nothing to do with Iran.

One link equals the rest of the world? BTW, do you even know how a missile defense system works?

Why don't you explain how the missile defense system works ratifar so we will all be as informed as you?

You did not even bother to look at the link being so close minded. The link is to a Google search on the subject. But you really did not need that information, did you?

A defense system isn't AIMED at anyone. It is simply that, a defense system. And last time I checked, Russia and Iran were pretty close.

I'm impressed by you linking to an link aggregate page of sites that agregate the SAME article. Absolutely brilliant.

I'll add "don't know how google works" to the list that includes "I have no clue what evolution is but I have a broken watch" and about the history of nuclear weapons.

To put it simply, no missile defense system is 100% proof because detecting all incoming objects, determining their exact trajectory and targeting all of them (especially when large numbers and decoys are used) and therefore when facing a nuclear strike completely useless, since it only takes about 10kt warhead to destroy a city. Besides it is predicated on the absurd idea that the Iranians, or anyone else wo...

Or but they are. You see the way the Russians see it, a defense shield system, especially as vast as the one proposed by the Bush administration could lessen if not negate their nuclear deterrence capability. Which would lead her enemies to attack with conventional weapons or even initiate a first strike with little or no fear of retaliation.

It's like saying the armor of a tank is just defensive.

Nothing stopping Russia from developing their own defense system.

Except cost oh and starting a new arms race because once they do the Chinese will also do it. In fact it would lead to a double recursive arms race. Once side would develop better missiles to penetrate the other defenses while at the same time updating their own and so on. Meanwhile a real terrorist would simply smuggle a low yield nuke in the back of truck and you can kiss any give mid-size city goodbye.

So much for missile defense, it doesn't make sense and it's a complete waste of resources.

ratifar, following your logic, we should can our missile defense systems (we would not want another arms race) and sit back and wait until China, Russia or Iran develops one. Surely they would not develop one unless we did first. I am getting that right? When they start sending missiles our way, we can swat at them with our fly swatters while they use their missile defense systems protecting them from retaliation.

Ronald Reagan proposed a missile defense system while he was president. The liberals called it "Star Wars" and laughed at him. They are not laughing anymore.

It was and it is. Now what country can trust what a current Administration says when the next one will betray it? That missile defense system was not just for the protection of Europe.

This guy is almost single-handedly undermining the US as he walks hand-in-hand with the power-pumped Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, and Feinstein, etc.

Russian and Iran are advancing at breakneck speed because they know their time is NOW. I wonder if Netanyahu's secret visit to Russia last week had anything to do with this.

Again, the US has not betrayed anyone, since the so called missile defense system is a colosal waste of time and money. As far as Russia is concerned, they still dealing with their own backyard and their current military capabilities (and probable future expansion) is infinitesimal.

As for Iran, they are only a threat if you believe them to be completely suicidal and considering the gains the made during the Bush administration, they are sitting pretty right now.

If anything Obama is trying to repair the damage done by Bush, half heartily I may add, but still trying.

Except Jay, neither China nor Russia are developing any such systems now or do they appear to be doing so in the future. Both nations are concentrating on upgrading and expanding their conventional capabilities. Russia is in fact looking to reduced it's nuclear arsenal, you might have missed the recent treaty they signed with the U.S. and China doesn't want to derail it's economic growth by launching into an arms race with the U.S. or for that matter Russia (they are not the best of buddies historically and while they share a common foe they don't trust each other).

A little bit of history and some study of actual weapons sales would go a long way.

Naive and delusional...but then, we all have our areas....some of us still believe in "Hope".

Again. Russia is advancing as is Iran and they are in cahoots along with some help from N. Korea and a lot of walking-a-thin-line by China.

All done.
