rachel923 says: This has worked for me. Self doubt is so harmful to self-esteem. I have always trusted my instincts. The Book "The Secret" touches on this line of thinking as well. One of the lessons offered to Carlos Castanada by Don Juan was to seek to turn off the inner dialogue. @Rachael...Thanks for the clip. Excellent brain food. @The Real Napster...Re:The Secret...I was so impressed with watching it over the internet about November of 2006 that I bought the DVD at $30+ so I could show it to others. When my ex watched it she said she said she'd love to buy it & send it to 5 relatives for Christmas but couldn't fit it into her budget at the time so I went online & purchased 6 of them one for her & 5 for her relatives & gave it to her as a Christmas present but in time for her to wrap & send them to her relatives for the holiday. Needless to say things have turned out very positive for all involved in knowing The Secret. I was able to make a deal with my 10 yea... Alfred Adler said that in the hierarchy of needs what man needs most is to feel secure in his self-esteem. The New Testament says: As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. This is so true, but it's a hard lesson to teach oneself without external affirmation or approbation. If I am bothered by something, I have wondered, is there something wrong with what I see, or is is the way I look at it? I also try and see whether I can change either. I can always change the way I look at something. or I can do something practical to change the situation. If I can't change something, I get used to it, but it's amazing the things, someone can change if there is the right motivation. Our ability to see our selves is directed in great part by the way we think others see us. No matter how we see ourselves, everyone who sees us, sees a different person, and each view, is incomplete, and is filtered through the expectations of the viewer. When I Imagine my own voice, I can prese... Isn't it "You are what you EAT"? @Ayre, I'd heard that saying many many years ago & certainly the things we consume affect our health for good/bad but more importantly is the way we think. I study numerology & I often find it interesting to turn words & thoughts into their numerical counterparts for further understanding. I've noted the phrases numerically below. Notice that both THINK & EAT both reduce to the #8 as does the whole sentence/thought but the word think is a higher number before it is reduced(More energy). The only vowel in THINK is the letter "I" which is a #9 in numerology the # that desires to of service to all whereas the "E" & "A" of EAT total 6 the # that deals with bodies(Anything that is materi... Oh, yes, yes, Allen... I saw one of your previous comments and was fascinated. Anyone who can add two and two amazes me. (I'm innumerate you see, and beyond my fingers and toes, I can't count). Wow! Another fascinating answer. You're a genius. Thank you. The New Testament encourages us to do this as well; "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." I'm thinking the act of capturing you thoughts is not the work of brain power, but more the work of your spirit/soul/inner self. If that is true, how do I find that spirit that would allow me to achieve such an impossible task, like "taking every thought captive"? Much of what I am I am spending a lifetime finding out. I do see a lot of people thinking that what they are thinking is all there is to their reality. I've even met a few people who think they can think themselves happy, and think that feeling good is somehow the be all and end all of their life. But yes, in the frame of cognitive behavioural therapy, for instance, pathological thinking styles can be modified to attenuate some negative feeling states such as those in anxiety and depression. In general though, consider, again for instance, the concepts of 'rationalising', 'wishful thinking', 'reality checks', 'pseudoinnocence' (rollo May}. 'false optimism' {Erich fromm}. Etc. |
