I remember staying up late to watch the coverage. It's hard to believe how primitive all that technology seems now. Remember that it was the space race that provided the impetus to develop micro-electronics and lots of medical technology, something to think about the next time you hear someone call the space program a waste or wonder why the money isn't being spent on the ground.
