ofcapri says: (quote)All spiders can and will bite if in danger or accidentally touched e.g. in shoes or clothing etc. Any spider bite can cause a reaction, ranging from a bee or wasp sting type bite to those requiring hospitalisation. Different people react in different ways so it is best to be cautious around all spiders and look but do not handle any spider no matter how it is classified. Creepy little things but some of them are kind of pretty. I hate spiders no matter how pretty they look! some of these are absolutely beautiful. i probably wouldn't walk up and pat them, but i'd certainly get my camera out if i came across one. I've never held any irrational repulsion of them. Not that I want them crawling on me or hiding in my shoe, but I usually just leave them be, and they do the same. my best friend has a tarantula.... i never understood what a taratuntula could possibly be doing inside a house..... what nasty teeth it has.... I tend towards Mona's sentiments I actually find them quite fascinating and would go for the camera option. Though, I did speak about a rather large spider that did not totally convince me it was a harmless huntsman which I chose to put outside and to remind it to stay outside. Didn't have time for the camera whilst shooing it. Hello chestnut 501- What the hell is a "mofos"? This clip is timely for me. I'm recovering from a spider bite on my ankle. It started with a tiny little bite hole and expanded over the course of a few days to be the size of a marble. Its now receding. The spider's ju-ju was not stronger them my ju-ju....this time anyway I was bitten by a black widow once and I got really sick and it was painful-not just the bite-I couldn't use the leg it bit me on for a few days-and there was just general pain all over. The meds.even made me sick-it was hard for me to keep anything down.I would have ended up in the hospital if my Mom had not of stepped in -she took care of me and my kids for about a week. I am hard to keep down but that little bug really got me!! If you get bit by a widow or recluse don't wait -go get some meds. I might not have been so sick if I'd have seen a Doc. sooner. I actually see the Camel Spider - Solfugids, around my house all the time... I live in the desert in southern Cali. Wierd that they say it only reached 1.2 inches, when i've seen a few that were atleast 4 inches long! Incredible creatures really... not completely harmless, we call em Vinegaroons around here, because rumor has it that when you're bitten by one of these, you taste vinegar for a few day..(not the only side effect of their bite..) One time i caught a big one that was atleast 3 inches, and dropped it into a blackwidow web.. Awesome battle between the 2, but the black widow wins it hands down. I wouldn't recommend trying to touch one of these with your hands, personal experience shows they ARE aggressive. Thank you all for your interesting comments. I new a young woman (32 years old) and she got bit by a brown recluse on the ankle and it caused her leg to swell up. Eventually the leg became infected so bad that they had to amputate just above the ankle. The poor girl had another bout with infection and they had to amputate again just below the knee. Again the infection came back and they eventually amputated above the knee. All this took place over a 12 year span time-line. This is a very sad story but it is true. I felt so bad for this poor woman and the pain she had to endured both physical and emotional. She is doing fine now. Moral to the story is if you get bit by a spider, capture it... ...if you get bit by a spider, capture it and take the spider and see a Dr....The only times I've ever gotten spider bites, I never saw the little creep or had the chance to catch it. They always seem to get me when I'm asleep. Fortunately, they weren't dangerous bites. If it is possible, capture it or take it's carcass with you to the Dr. so they can identify it. Good advice ofcapri. I have an inflexible rule regarding living things that I consent to share my inside living space with. I never willingly share my home with any living thing whose natural compliment of legs is less than two or more than four. I have no quarrel with spiders on the outside of the house. Any I find on the inside get skwooshed so hard it`s dake a DNA test to identify the remains. Went to take out the trash today when a scorpion ran in my door as soon as i opened it. Caught it and have it as a pet in a SEALED glass jar... im sure he doesnt breathe too much |
