Along with learning how to read, I think kids need to understand why to read, which is what Reading Rainbow was about. A very important aspect to learning is knowing why we must put forth the effort to do so. Some kids just don’t feel the need if they don’t understand the why.

I sincerely hope the research findings that prompted this change is indeed the right way to go but I fear this change just may lose some kids that would otherwise learn to love to read.

Does anyone else miss the public television they had as a child? I grew up with Reading Rainbow.
