Kore7 says: [T]the sun has set on the age of unquestioned Western military dominance. Bluntly, the East has solved the riddle of the Western Way of War. In Baghdad and in Anbar Province as at various points on Israel’s troubled perimeter, the message is clear: methods that once could be counted on to deliver swift decision no longer work. So it turns out that Arabs—or I can hardly believe that I agree with something printed in The American Conservative, but this is a pretty sensible perspective, I think. The title seems a little sensationalistic, though -- there's nothing "Islamic" about what he's describing. He's talking about the (militarily) powerless making war against the (militarily) powerful. Bee-stings, Get enough of them and it will kill a giant. That's only provided the giant just sits there and does nothing in return (as we've been doing for the past few years). Why is it so surprising that the arabs are good fighters? Look at the history - they certainly have a record on the subject... even their chief demagog was a great warrior and preached war as a conquering strategy for the religion. Nothing surprising about them being able to fight. The problem isn't with them, it's with the West, which has all these weapons and capabilities and doesn't use them. If they did - they'd quickly put a fear of G*d into these people and shut them down. I cant believe it but I agree with Record on this. If the enemy only focuses on hate then they will lose. If we focus on our loved ones then we will win. RecordSage said:What about Judiasm and Christianity? The Hebrew bible/Old Testament is full of stories about the glory of the Hebrews conquering other tribes and inflicting atrocities on them. As I have said before, I don't think that looking at the ancient of scripture of religions gets us very far in understanding their current followers. RS, might is not right! Or as my mom used to tell me, "Two wrongs don't make a right" teajay1111, I think every normal Mom would say this... and it's a good statement, but if someone's coming out to harm you and you sit still and keep saying this saying... you know what'll happen. You can use this saying when dealing with rational, coherent and decent people, people who appreciate that they've done something wrong and you taking a higher road simply avoid additional confrontation and escalation and they appreciate you doing so in return, hopefully learning from the experience and not offending you again. This is NOT this kind of scenario. In this instance this approach is equivalent to a suicide. Is that something you want to contemplate? They don't care about you, your ... jklugman, you're missing the point. I was simply trying to point out that it shouldn't be that surprising to anyone that arabs know how to fight. That's all. Has nothing to do with anyone else's ability to fight, scripture or anything else. |
