"This was underresourced, underfunded, undermanned and ignored for years," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

"The president is focused on ensuring that we meet measurable benchmarks. ... It's going to take some doing."

On Afghanistan, Robert Kaplan wants Obama to be more like George Bush.

Yeah, right.

Obama is no George Bush.

Obama is a Marxist and he's put all his energy and resources into taking America down the road to Fascism as quickly as possible.

As far as Afghanistan goes, I believe Obama screwed up
by sending more troops in there to die.

It was the Generals who wanted more troops and I heartily approve of their decision.

Reducing the war scenario to its lowest common denominator, when I was going to college, in the '60s I worked as a bouncer in the wildest, toughest night club in Asbury Park, NJ, and I worked alone. There were times that I was literally fighting for my life. If the owner of the club wasn't so concerned with the bottom line, an extra hand or two to protect my back would have been greatly appreciated.

Three of my six sons are currently actively serving: An Army Major, 35, - awarded the Bronze Star; an Army Ranger Captain, 29, - twice awarded the Bronze Star; and, a National Guardsman, 22.
Thank you Steve for your sons' courage and bravery. I
honor their service to our Republic. The thing that worries me is the judgment of the generals in sending more troops into the southern area of Afghanistan and in particular the issue of the supply line going through Pakistan, which has been regularly attacked
by the Taliban.

I acknowledge that the Afghanistan war is important
to our national security, I just wonder if there wouldn't be another approach CentCom could implement.

We can't leave. There has been too many lives and money committed to the area to back off and silently retreat. It's a Taleban stronghold; we must keep the pressure on.

I 3rd. merrie and antara's sentiments.

Thank you merrie, Antara, and jatfla for your kind words about my sons. Just knowing that people like you are really out here, supporting them with prayers and the courage to speak out against critics, especially the "I'll-hold-your-coat-while-you-fight" crowd, means more to our family than can be put into words.

This is about my son, Dan's first tour in Iraq, after he lost his two best friends; one by an IED, another by an RPG.

Thank you, again, for your kind words. I wrote this after 9-11 when I knew my sons were going to war.

ARISE MY SON
by Steve Savage

Arise my Beloved Prince! Face the morning Sun!
For there to the East in Desolate Lands,
The War I feared has begun.
I knew this day was coming;
I knew it from the start.
Why was I chosen among all men
To sire your magnificent heart?
Your Majestic Father, the King of all Kings,
Has sorely tested my faith and belief;
How could He not know I would love you,
Perhaps bear some unspeakable grief?
Why weren’t you born of wealth and fame,
The son of some higher man?
Then mercifully I could live in Darkness,
Blinded to His Heavenly Plan.
I hear the Archangel’s Trumpet,...

When my son, Dan, was asked to write an essay, before his pre-enlistment interview, why he wanted to become an officer, he wrote:

"I want to live the Great Life, the life of a warrior in service to America and in service to those who, for whatever reason, cannot, should not, or will not serve. I want to earn the right to stand among the ranks of our nation's Greatest Men, both the living and the dead, most known only to God, and to share with them, what only a true warrior may experience, the feeling of filling every inch of my uniform with love and pride in America."
