willhelm says: "If economics is finally a science, what, exactly, does it teach? With the help of Columbia University economist Pierre-André Chiappori, I have synthesized its findings into ten propositions. Almost all top economists—those who are recognized as such by their peers and who publish in the leading scientific journals—would endorse them (the exceptions are those like Joseph Stiglitz and Jeffrey Sachs, whose public pronouncements are more political than scientific). The more the public understands and embraces these propositions, the more prosperous the world will become." But if the population is educated about this, the democrats would have a difficult time pressing for their agenda. Marx always said that the population should be educated only enough to support the state. It is interesting that a country that has the market system in it's DNA would have citizens who just don't get it. I am on the community advisory board for the Econ program at the local University and it always amazes me to see the students realize that what they have seen on TV and what they read in the papers is mostly wrong when it comes to economics. |
