The First Online EMBL PhD Symposium is a bold experiment in online collaboration. Why have a conference tied to a geographical location when your effort is global? Ok, besides getting drunk together, why have a fixed location? EMBL is trying to see if you can hob nobs and find out about the latest news in a purely virtual environment (probably second life and/or a wiki setting) and push the science forward.
