It's becoming increasingly difficult to check information via independent sources, because there doesn't seem to be that many left IMO. If all we have is official sources to get our information, they can pretty much tell us what ever they want...and they do.

I find it very disconcerting that I am no longer able to trust the media. Having grown up in the Viet Nam era, the news was always "right out there" The war was on TV, the protests were in the papers, and Woodward & Bernstein came through with the truth about Nixon.
The loss of free press is very hurtful.
