somehow i find it hard to believe that there are currently only roughly 7000 languages spoken on Earth. I would've thought there'd be that many in Africa, alone!

The Bible has been translated into over 2000 languages and dialects. It has been estimated that by 2012, the Bible will have been translated into every known written language. Quite amazing, considering that the next most translated text has only been translated into a few hundred languages.

I didn't know that there were 7000 spoken languages and dialects in the world. I'm guessing that many of those do not have a written counterpart...
