This may actually be a good thing in that it often takes extreme absurdity to point out the flaws in things. This bit of news certainly falls into the extreme absurdity category!

Oh Good God! And I agree with Egoldstein that it may help to point out the absurdity of it but I certainly hope it doesn't have to go as far as jailing this couple!
Peace.............................

Years ago Eric Fromm wrote the book, "The Sane Society" where he asked himself the question, " can a society become mentally ill?" Then he goes on to show that yes it can be mentally ill .... witness Nazis Germany, and others..

So whenever I read such scary, ludicrous stories I am reminded of Fromm's book. We may not be quite there yet, but the signs are ominous

The absurdity is in inforwars typical foilhat reaction.
Do any of you believe that these two are going to jail for one year, let alone 20? Please.

Do you wan't to fly with immature narcissists with no concern for anyone or anything beyond their uncontrolable urges? You think they have somehow been mistreated? Good grief, people.

"extreme absurdity" is that like jumbo shrimp? Is this really what is considered absurdity, let alone extreme absurdity? Or, are we talking about the absurdity of the article? Perhaps it is absurd the Patriot act may have saved lives, maybe your own. This site has a motto " because there is a war for your mind".
That war may have been lost !

And what relevance is the behaviour of scoundrels? Should the natural patriot alter his beliefs and priciples as result?

Is there anything from which the Patriot Act isn't intended to protect us? Now we can add hot terrorist-on-terrorist action to the ever-growing list of things to be frightened about.

My God. I didn't think there was anyone who could have tried to put a positive spin on this incident. It is a frightening world we live in as long as people like GD exist.

GD, how is the Patriot Act, intended to "protect" us from terrorist threats, related to a couple kissing. I guess it is to protect us from the reaction someone like you might have to someone showing affection, possibly flipping out and bringing the plane down.

Next up on the Patriot Act....Chocolate manufacturers to be jailed for terrorizing America and putting American citizens health in jeopardy.

Where does it end! The Patriot Act violates so many Civil Rights that it has to be declared unconstitutional. What is the Supreme Court waiting for? As an American, I feel more secure abroad, where I contact an embassy for help, than I do in the Great State of Texas!

I don't for a second thing that these people will get anything like the sentence threatened, but you statement is a little extreme here. They were having a kiss - they were not performing oral sex on each other in front of a classroom full of children. I think we need a little perspective here.

when they confronted the couple the man jokingly mentioned the word "terrorist." If you don't see the 1984ish reaction about a word being said as extreme well.........open your eyes. 9/11 was a false flag state sponsored attack, not on the world trade center, but on the freedoms of Americans. Bush says they hate our way of life then he signs "the military commissions act." Which remove habeas corpus. You can be declared an enemy combatant for "saying" the word terrorist and charged with 20 years in prison. Our way of life Mr. Bush.......Rather i think it's the elite that hates the fact that we are free to protest the shitty wages they want to cram down our throats stealing our property (taxe...

Abraham Lincoln removed Habeas Corpus during the civil war. As have many other presidents.

People have long known that making any jokes about bombs or other terrorist like activities will get you arrested since the 70's if not earlier.

Using national security as an excuse to infringe upon civil rights and liberties is as old as the country itself and isn't neccesarily a sign of the apocolyps.

...and allegedly engaging in more adult sexual acts.

Anon, do you seriously think that all this came about as result of two people kissing?

And the only reason that the Patriot Act even comes into play is likely because the incident was on a major airline flight and involved refusing cooperation with a flight crew.

Please, people, try to think things through rationally. Here's a thought. Why not wait and see how this plays out? If these two end up at Gitmo I'll be jumping up and down with y'all.

I love that this is a couple in their early 40s! Rock on, older lovebirds.

I recently returned from LA on Southwest with my boyfriend. I'm pretty sure we kissed during our flight, although we did refrain from heavy make-out sessions.

The flight crew had a pretty laid-back attitude, so this report surprises me.
