"To be empathetic means to be able to notice the subtle verbal and non-verbal signals people give off that let you know what they need or want." Have to be careful of this one if you're co-dependent!! LOL Seriously. If one is "co" this gets one in trouble unless one is able to differentiate clearly between being aware of another's feelings and trying to "fix" them or change them. Very true. In context, what I clipped makes more sense. It's hard sometimes to get enough of the article to bring important points into it so it can be misleading. The purpose of the article is to help manage anger and be more emotionally resilient. People who are codependent have the opposite problem sometimes! Very true. I bookmarked the clip to check out the full article, later. I'm blessed in that although I'm "co", I've had alot of recovery. I'm a recovering alcoholic/addict who just celebrated 19 years clean and sober. I had to learn how to "do" anger. When I was younger, I was so "co" that I wasn't able to let myself feel it at all, let alone express it. Now, although I still prefer to find a better solution than expressing my anger in destructive ways, I'm able to feel it without becoming physically ill. Usually. *s* I generally prefer to come from a place of Love, acceptance and gratitude. Again, thanks for the great clips. Do you have a website or BLOG?? Your profile is pretty skimpy!! *smile* oops. new feature. Need to subscribe to a thread if I want notification of comments I can add more to my profile...and I blog some on my myspace page. Just do a search for DocJ. I'm the one (currently) with the goofy red devil horns on my head! Cool. Gotcha!!! I sent you an invitation, although I don't use myspace much as it's so slow. Oops. can't invite you. You're blocked unless I have your last name or email addy. Email me at thorne@hartjoy.com, if you want me to add you. |
