Regarding cost, as the sole insured covered by the policy, the last premium I had on a policy which was effectively very good catastrophic care coverage, the lowest cost I could find was somewhere around a $5,000/ annual premium, far more costly than that referenced. As well, from conversations I have had with others I do not know of families paying anthing substantially less than the price mentioned, which would have to be the case for that price to be the average.

This is anecdotal experience, I know, but it does call into question the fact-finding as published. It will be interesting to see what the local media have to say about this development.
