alanocu says: So you'll need to go to the source page for this; forms inside of a clipmark don't work, enter your age - it spits out the goods.... http://www.museumofconceptualart.com/accomplished/ Funny, I just listened to a podcast by a photographer on his 50th birthday who was naming some famous photographs taken by photographers after their 50th birthday. I'm such a slacker. Sigh. Comparing to others serves little purpose. Are you a good person? Do you treat others properly? Isn't that enough? I refuse to beat myself up for what I am not. There's enough that I am to worry about. This clip title is just the kind of thinking that breeds hate, jealousy, depression and despair. If you are thinking in these terms I suggest you take stock of yourself and believe in yourself. If you are honest you might find you accomplish many things others couldn't possibly deal with. Above all else - Be true to yourself. When the comparison inspires you to feel that you can do more with you life, that it is not too late, then it is helpful. I'm happy with this clip and actually feel inspired to get off my keister and do something worthwhile again. If in being true to yourself it is what you wish to do then by all means have at it. But don't feel obligated to do something to keep up appearances just because someone else does. You should live your life as YOU see fit. Not as a comparison to others. Some of the comments above help me to not feel to bad about myself. Thanks. well geez skwril - that's what I'm all about - hate, jealousy, depression and despair - as everyone knows. I was happy to read the accomplishments of other 35 year old men. I found it fascinating and inspiring. I'm quite happy not having invented a monumental device that has changed mankind. If you're feeling hate and jealousy, it's not because of the title of this clip. Be happy for yourself, but be happy for others too. The world isn't out to get you. You are who you are, and that makes you special. We can't all be an Einstein or a Hemingway - that's OK! Don't take it personal. A lot of people who made it big in this world were just plain lucky, too! but a lot of them also w... I'm not changing the title of the clip - and it stays live. Comparing to others serves little purpose. Are you a good person? Do you treat others properly? Isn't that enough?Wow that's exactly what they used to say to us at the Baptist Church. When Rachel Carson was my age she wrote Silent Spring. I find that very inspiring. Lately I've been feeling that I should be contributing more to make this world a better place than it is, but have felt hampered by my age. Well, if Rachel Carson can accomplish what she did when she was my age then I can do something to make a difference at this age, too. I use this quote as my signature on emails and want to live all of my life accordingly: [i]This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little ... This clip title is just the kind of thinking that breeds hate, jealousy, depression and despair. That might be true if the title said "Things other people accomplished by the time they were your age" but it doesn't. It is a subtle difference, but an important one. Seeing things people accomplished WHEN they were your age just shows you that you aren't too old to do pretty much anything you set your mind to do. It says to me "if they can do it, you can too." I think it is all in the eye of the beholder. Thanks n2sooners. I was 'wow'd' by the results when I was at the site earlier. I found it really interesting, and I didn't feel like a failure. I'm happy for others and their accomplishments. One of results gave me an idea about a starting a new hobby. Ging, you always have the best comments - I was at your blog earlier and left you a comment, but I'm not sure if it went through. gingembre has a great blog - clippers should check it out! http://gingembresplace.blogspot.com/ Aw, shucks, alanocu... Thanks for the pat on the back. Now just massage my neck a little bit. To the left a little. Ah, there! surprising how many results google returns when you submit 'virtual massage' Its just a bit of fun isn't it, not meant to be heavy, wasn't many accomplishments for my age and no I'm not telling Everyone needs a friend willing to give a relaxing massage. Thanks, alanocu. I once had the dubious honor of working in a college bar for a while. Students aren't good tippers, you know, but the atmosphere was friendly and the bands were good. The kitchen and bar were downstairs; the main seating area and stage were upstairs. I carried heavy trays of food and pitchers of beer up and down a dozen stairs throughout the evening, a workout that had me in great physical shape I might add. But it was tiring, even for a 21-year-old. There was one wonderful, unforgettable guy who came in from time to time for a beer at the bar downstairs. I'd be standing there, waiting for the bartender to f... Believe me... I am not Baptist. As well, I do of course understand the value of an inspirational vision. I simply chose to illuminate that side of the paradox which is often forgotten; that great though the human potential is (and for some it is greater than others), not all great people attain greatness, but that being a good person is a great thing onto itself and should be sufficient for the respect of others, when unfortunately it is often not. One great teacher, Art Williams, perhaps said it best... "All you can do is all you can do, but all you can do is enough." Comparing to others serves little purpose. Are you a good person? DoFeeling worthless and lower than a snake's belly of late, I needed that reminder BTB. Tks. Good clip and appropriate title Alan - as always. has anyone noticed that the zombies are attacking clipmarks today? What is going on? Thanks for the good comments everyone. has anyone noticed that the zombies are attacking clipmarks today?yes! |
