alanocu says: Today the story of Saint Ursula is overwhelmingly considered to be fiction, and as a result in 1969 Pope Paul VI suppressed her cult as part of a larger revision of the Catholic canon of saints. That was interesting. Why would a pope suppress the worship of a saint who embodies everything he and the Catholic church are trying to promote. I love the way you've inserted narration--it's like walking along a gallery with someone narrating the story to you. Very interesting clip, alanocu... Very interesting clip! Popes are in the habit of suppressing things that were "Not Invented Here" ... it's all about control @tanyamm Why would a pope suppress the worship of a saint who embodies everything he and the Catholic church are trying to promoteCatholics do not worship saints. But what alanocu is referring to is the omitting of St. Ursula's feast day which was October 21st to honor a better known saint who is St. Peter Canisius. It is not because the Church is not allowed to venerate her but because as time goes by people tend to forget the older saints' chronicles. Never the less, she still remains a saint and a martyr and her title, or any other saints for that matter, can not be over turned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Ursula Excellent historical narrative and beautiful renaissance art. Thanks, alan Maybe they don't worship the saints but they do pray to them, don't they? Prayer is a plea, a request, a petition. Prayer is only worship or adoration when offered to God very nice work, my friend..i admire your spirit and devotion..very good.. |
