The actual word was coined in 1965 by those people who make words like this before there are actual programs in place like this! Websters meaning of afirmative action means this...an active effort to improve the employment or educational opportunities of members of minority groups and women; also: a similar effort to promote the rights or progress of other disadvantaged persons.
