Deepti says: It couldn’t possibly be that these young girls see clearly the life that awaits them in the loving arms of Saudi Arabia and don’t want to live like an identity-less being, someone else’s third-rate possession and be doomed to a life of beatings, unending labor, and even death if they step out of line, could it? If ever there was a nation well overdue for a revolution it is this poor excuse for a society. The whole cruel corrupt royal family needs approximately one hundred lashes each and then chained to the walls of a dungeon. To know that the so-called democracies here in the west have been propping up this hateful regime for decades makes me sick to my stomach. I agree with Deepti. Furthermore, if these girls have taken their course of action for the reasons she suggests, they deserve our admiration for their courage. Take issue with the next comment 'so-called democracies': Whatever their shortcomings Western nations shine brightly compared to the subject of the clip for example. Nothing new in Western democracies propping up repressive regimes. Think South America, South East Asia; before Saddam ever became our enemy he was our mate. It's called real-politik and it sucks, but there you go. I suspect that Western nations want to avert a revolution in Saudi Arabia because the result could be something even worse than what they have now, if that is possible. It's "The Land of the Prophet" and full of crazy religious nuts. At least Saudi women can get medical care. Under the Taliban, women in Afghanistan had the world's highest rate of death in childbirth because: 1. Women couldn't be treated by male physicians, and 2. Women were not allowed to go to school, much less medical school. Saudi women don't currently have these disadvantages. Under the Taliban, women in Afghanistan had the world's highest rate of death in childbirth because: 1. Women couldn't be treated by male physicians, and 2. Women were not allowed to go to school, much less medical school.Every time I read about this, it gets more incredulous. Do they not see the benefits of healthy women in Afghanistan? Unless you are married to a doctor or are related to a doctor, you can just forget about ever receiving health care. I am currently reading Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Here are some excerpts: "Islamic law in Saudi Arabia treated half its citizens like animals, with ... Great clip and great comments from all. These stories just rip my heart out, but we have to keep witnessing it. Least we can do....as they are forced to live it. Nothing new in Western democracies propping up repressive regimes. Are we really this helpless? Isn't it time to send real-politik to the moral dustbin where it belongs? Don't we have the power to do that? |
