zasel says: It's only fair, imho, that the opportunity be given for the "other" side to express their side of the military story to high school students. I remember so clearly the line in the film "Private Benjamin" when Goldie Hawn's character enlists in the army, and she is shocked when she sees what an army base looks like. She says "But I joined the Army with the condo's and swimming pools." Not everyone knows that the military is not all glory and adventure. To be fair, students must be shown the realistic side of military life before they make a decision to sign-up. For those students who find this way of life appealing, wonderful. But for those who would cringe at this lifestyle, they are better off knowing before they raise their right hand and take the oath. |
