The feeling of needing to prepare to ensure yours and your families survival is one that is on the rise so lets take a glimpse a just what it means.

For me at least It means you might stay alive as the whole world circles the drain, or that being in a more stable position, you are able to help others who are not so well prepared when disaster strikes.

On a basic level think of it like this, if you were going camping would you leave with no equipment or supplies, of course not, not if you intend to live.

So what happens when nature comes to you?
It could be a quake, a tornado, a hurricane or typhoon, or floods or even any number of human caused events, how will your Ikea flat pack fortress protect you then?

Y2K brought out the survivalists and crazies, my son's dad was one of them.

I tried to explain to him that a computer dealing with two digit dates, vs four, would have little, to no, effect on anything. Life would continue on and trucks would continue to bring food.

Two years ago, while researching the economy, I realized the real end/disaster is coming. And I started preparing as much as I can with limited budget and non-helpful husband.

I can think of no viable circumstance where preparing for unforeseen events (oxymoronic perhaps but you know what I mean) would be considered foolish.

It does not mean you have to build a tank to get to your bunker when the shit hits the fan, it can be little things too. Having tools to allow you to perform certain tasks yourself, a little extra food bought with your weekly shop and store, often the little things you might not have thought of otherwise can make all the difference.

This type of reality was brought home when Katrina made landfall. Disasters can and do happen, and not all of them are natural either.
