mugofcoffee says: We need search as a tool to get us from here to there online or for quick information lookups. But we also need alternative mechanisms to help us discover content and information we otherwise might not have known. After all, I don’t know what I don’t know...confused? read the entire story Completely dazed and confused. I'm still trying to figure out what RSS, hotlinks and such other terminology means. Gawd! I'm just computer-stupid! "serendipitous” discovery of contentIt's what I love so much about Clipmarks. I reckon we can be the discovery engine of the future. @michelle, I'm with you. So much to learn. I go to Wiki, Answers, computer forums, SmartComputing, my nephew, and of course, CLIPMARKS. Not enough hours in the day for me. I keep a HUGE spiral notebook for my notes. Left side page is computer, addons, software notes. Right side for questions, searching info, news stories to hunt to clip, etc. Still takes forever to find something, so I highlight with different colored markers for easier search. I also think guided search is very critical and important, it is sort of like human intervention, an editor of a newspaper. For example, I'm thinking that the tags on the right hand side of the Clipmarks main page is very critical and are helpful in guiding visitors to the hot issues of the day. I think there is a great potential in it. For now, I don't see all of them much relevant to the topic of the day but with human intervention, the site could drive visitors to the relevant clips of the day plus the visitors can build the clips based on what is important and critical as a community. Hi admac, your having said that, I would have been much happier, if you could have appreciated a wee bit of the love of the clipper (read mug), in bringing home (read clipmarks) only the quality, variety & the fabulous stuff from the net: above all, the time, energy & inv. spent on the clippings!...(smiles) Thanks for the tip Dorine. Never heard of SmartComputing but I'll visit their site. I like your idea of a notebook and am happy to report I'll be copying you. @michelle, I'm flattered you like my ideas. I wake up during the night with a flash of inspiration to better streamline my online time. I'm sharing our computer with a teenager. SmartComputing requires a subscription to their magazine to get access to their site. I bought a copy and took advantage of their great offer and pay only $29/yr. Well worth it. You can create your own Library to keep tips, articles, how tos, etc. for quick reference. They signed me up within 2 weeks of receiving my subscription card. Can't say enough about them. You also get access to three other mags' sites. I'm trying to learn all I can as quick as I can. Sometimes my head starts spinning! Oh Great, eBay is purchasing stumble? Well I'm uninstalling that now |
