Questions for Clipdaddies

.....and I'll get the ball rolling, too:
yesterday I still put it down to my own incompetence. today I'm getting suspicious: I still can't access my own ClipCast page. i can see other people's but if i try to get to my own i just get redirected back to the welcome page. Any idea why this is? Am I alone in this?

I get my ClipCast page when I click on the "New! Go to my ClipCast" button in the upper righthand corner. Unfortunately the label on this button changes back and forth from that to "Get Clipmarks for Facebook", which is disconcerting.

Have you tried the dropdown menu under Clip tool button on Toolbar? "MyClipCast" gets me to my home page. Also, use that to get my stuff in Classic View.

Everynow and then when something like this happens (updates, etc.) I wish there was a forum. I know that is what we use the clips for but sometimes it is hard to figure out where the discussion is being held.

mona, it turns out that the problem you're having is because we have a minimum requirement of 5 characters in usernames, so your 4 character name is breaking the url. I'll email you directly to try to work this out.

What I'm not understanding too well, and I say this as respectfully as I can, is that it feels as though we are CRP testing software that isn't ready for live production. I worked as a software developer for JD Edwards for years, and would create interfaces that would be tested like crazy by the USERS before anything went live on the site. This confusion is exactly what we tried to avoid.

I have no idea if any of the active clipmarks users were asked to review any of this beforehand. I would have been happy to give my feedback. We're fighting fires now.

With that said, what's done is done. I love this site and want this to work as much as anybody. With my CPU at 100%, prompts to abo...

Well, that's what the facebook lingo is and here I'm on Clipmarks but within facebook. Holy Cow, you guys got me (feels like Clipmarks was bought by Facebook).

Anyway, alanocu, I am in total agreement with you. I have trust in CM Gods that they will address all these issues. I just feel that this overhaul should have been done separately and not all together at once. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not even checking what ClipCast is all about, though I have just logged into Facebook which I usually don't even use on daily basis (people tell me that the whole world lives here, I don't know).

hi Eric, yes, it was cool, I thought I could run the whole thing from within but some how I found myself back at Clipmarks site, out of Facebook.

There are things about FB/MS or Digg/reddit/propeller platforms that I dislike: they first focus on "me" and "mine" aspect. It is me who is sharing so they'll put me in line to share among millions of others. Their focus is on what you bring rather than what you are. That me is a commodity which owners are exploiting (what is bookmark sharing if not some unabashed show of ego)

arifsali i think the only reason you left the Clipmarks app in Facebook is because you clicked the "classic view" option in the clip button in your browser. That will always take you from wherever you are on the web into the clipmarks site. Anything you do in Facebook (other than click a link to leave it) will keep you in Facebook.

Regading the Mashable piece, i appreciate your support. Honestly, i can take criticism...it's part of the deal. But that writer clearly had no clue what he was talking about. I've popped inside of Facebook but I haven't played around enough there to do commenting. I did invite a few people to use the application through Facebook that I wouldn't have normally because I think that application within Facebook is more newbie friendly to start with. Especially given that the people I invited through Facebook are younger than me and willing to try anything that's inside of Myspace or Facebook.

As stated by ericskiff, my problem with embedding my clipcast in Myspace has been fixed...works fine now. Thanks.

But let me also point out another small glitch (I don't remember anyone mentioning this, if they have my apologies). I still generally use classic view only, but since the changes when at the main home page of all clippers, my own list of clips, or my clippers, a few of the small toolbar style buttons (such as comments, or tags) in the main window are always covering the title of the first clip in the list. I keep my monitor display set at 800x600 if that's relevant.

I'm kind of surprised that in the new ClipCast, when you click on the "Popular Clips" button you aren't shown the metric (down in the list below the ClipCast window) that qualifies it as "popular" (i.e. no numbers of pops or views).

Even if our old judgement system will not be the same with more exposure we will adjust to what constitutes a lot of views or pops.

Really wished we could set some preference of what view we would like to open in (sorry if this has been addressed). If both worlds (ClipCast & Classic View) are equally valued than it should be up to the user to decide which view he/she wants to default to.

Ok, a few updates...

1 All problems with posting ClipCasts on MySpace have been fixed. Sorry to all MySpace users for the problems we were having!

2. There were originally some issues with posting ClipCasts on Netvibes and iGoogle. Those too have been cleared up.

3. We have a kick ass idea in the works to provide the same functionality that used to be on the right side of the Classic View, automatically keeping you updated on activity by your clippers or on your clips. I actually think it will be much better that what used to be there. If things go smoothly, we hope to have it live by the end of next week.

oh, and i wanted to reply to alanocu's question about whether any users tested this before it went live and his observation that we all seem to be putting out fires right now.

Truth is, nobody tested this before we went live (other than me, derek, w, adam and skiff) and we definitely are putting out fires.

I admit, that sounds kind of crazy. But, quite honestly, i'm so tired of the focus group mentality that most businesses and politicians rely on these days, that i kind of choose the opposite extreme. Apparently it is, as I just switched it to 1024x768 to see any difference, and all the buttons fit nice and neat. Still, I'll always prefer 800x600, and I'm prolly not alone, though I acknowledge I might be in the minority.

I clipped a video, when it appeared on clipmarks the video would not play and read "this video is no longer available". So I tried to delete it since no one had viewed it yet and why post it if it will not play. The delete would not function, despite repeat attempts. It allowed me to make it private or not private, just not deleted. Please help. Thanks.

I've just been doing basically the same thing as I did when I got a computer, then firefox, then ubuntu, (linux)
I just clicked buttons to see what happened. I haven't tried face book, but I'm not in a hurry. I was more confused until I clicked classic and that has helped bridge the gap.
There's no joy in breaking in a tame horse.
If something is new by definition, it is going to involve acclimatization. Perhaps it could be described as getting cliplegs, where the boat no longer just rocks, it starts to get thrown around in the waves, but it's a solid boat that wont sink (And there aren't as likely to be many icebergs)
I've thought about a forum, or suggestion box, until it occurred to me ...

Ok, this is cramping my style, eric.

In Classic View, after saving a clip, it doesn't go back to where I was. It jumps to the All Clippers Pop page with the Big, Blue ClipCast window. This doesn't happen in ClipCast. Just something else for you to work on.

If I look at one of my own clips f.ex, then the top remark is okay, but if I have commented further down in the clip, then it only says "thisnamecantbet".

OK, a bunch of updates...

We have fixed the issue of not being able to see your latest clips in the Activity list on the right side of your page.

The reason thisnamecantbetaken is getting truncated at times is because it’s too long for the space available. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that.

To find a permalink from a ClipCast, just click the title of the clip in the clipcast.

We have fixed the problem regarding the check box to receive an email alert when a clip is commented on.

Sahara, are you still having problems deleting a clip? We can’t seem to replicate or track that one down.

Found a couple more things...

1. In CC, while searching for a clip ("Life 90% unknown" by wildcat), got Adobe Flash Player 9 abort script warning. Had to go into CV to get to clip.

2. Couldn't get to some of the clips under My Clippers Activity box.....got "Sorry, error..." page.
Clips trying to clip on: "Iraq oil production higher" and "Could you spot something"

Jeez...so we did some work on the database to make some queries run faster...then collectively decided that we all needed a break. What happens while we're away? Pops stop working. Lesson to be learned? We can never take a break!!!

I've found a few more problems:

1. In CV, can't scroll inside Activity list on own homepage. Have to use your arrows...keyboard arrows don't work. It's faster, tho--so, I like that.

2. In CV, trying to click on a clip title in dropdown My Clippers box..got: Time ran out...'error in "/" application'

3. Layout of my clip "AMW: Tonight's Episode 12-15-07" is very different under CV and CC. Links don't work under CC. Photos overlap.

Some serious allegations have been made against certain clippers and before things were cleared up, this was the result:

I don't think this was the intended use for the *delete comment* option. Abuse of the option, as illustrated above, is just plain ridiculous! Is there some other option? I'd rather go back to the way things were and then just contact clip support if necessary to remove inappropriate comments? I don't know, but censorship like in the above comment section is just not acceptable. Especially on an important topic as that.

Interestingly enough, especially after the upgrade, I find myself wasting enough of my time in my own My Clipper's section because most of my clippers are apparently in a feud over Right, Left, Censorship etc.

I guess it is about time I look for some new clippers to add.
