Religious belief is just another form of tribalism. One more way to define the difference between "us" and "them", and make sure you don't like "them".

The religious often use their fists to silence the voice of their opponents. The atheists are often smarter. They desire their opponents to be silenced but they use the courts to do their dirty work for them. Is one group any cleaner than the other? If we could only get rid of the religious folks... and those anti-religious folks as well, the world would be a better place. But wait..... who would be left??

Religious belief does, very commonly, become a form of tribalism. Which is why Jesus was killed - he threatened the tribe's exclusivism.

Which is also why many Christian groups would kill him today, if he re-played his Galilean life in America. He would challenge nice church folks to do away with us/them, inside/outside, tribal views of humans, and love them all.

Not that atheists aren't subject to tribalism, as well. It's just a little less hypocritical.
