debbyski says: It's easy to blame the victim isn't it? But these are people with feelings who were alive once with families and save for the grace of God, there go you or I. It's too bad they didn't start working together like this a long time ago. Some lives might have been saved. There's a stretch of highway like that in British Columbia where hitch-hikers (mostly young girls and women) have disappeared and no trace of them remains. This has been going on for years and the police are just now thinking the disappearances might be related. This is a case of one police force with different detachments not cooperating. Sadly, society thinks of these victims as "throw away people". Always has and likely always will. More's the pity. I shudder now as I recall the early 70's when I would think nothing of hitchhiking as well picking up hitchhikers. I would always pick up the ones that I knew no one else would give a ride. I am glad that I survived and I am sad that we no longer have the trust and and freedom to live this way. wow. this could have been going on for years. |
