masbury says: Some leading conservatives publicly turn against her: "She's out of her league." Couric interview, though kindly done, raises red flags; sets an image she may not be able to overcome Mas? I don't think she will be on the ticket for much longer. McCain's got problems either way. I think Palin will not do well without notecards (she tended to have them with her in her Alaska campaign), but to get dropped from the ticket will showcase McCain's poor judgement. On the other hand, SNL comes out the winner! My concern is that Biden should be afraid, very afraid. Expectations are way too low, she will almost automatically "win" because she will exceed expectations. Biden, however, is likely to put his foot in his mouth (he usually does). Unless he is extremely careful she almost can't lose this debate. I will have ants in my pants just wanting to discuss this further with u after tomorrow Oscar. deb - I started reading Deer Hunting with Jesus: Dispatches from America's Class War yesterday. It's by an experienced journalist who grew up in small-town, working-class Virginia, and returns to live there in his 50s. The book is about class - about how college-educated left-leaning people and working poor white people are utterly segregated and unable to communicate with one another. Looks priceless, and has SO much to say, implicitly, about this campaign and why it is that poor white people so often vote for the very people who keep them stuck in poverty. I need to know this! I've been realizing how selectively ... Let's say it was WV instead of Virginia. Why would he return? Because we are our own tribe and because it's home. Hard to explain. As you may or may not know from my coments, WV isn't the most accepting state for gays or lesbians or bisexuals. I'm trying to tell my friends a little at a time. One of them contacted me today and I hadn't seen her in a bit and she had remarried. So I got up the courage and told her about myself, but I was really scared because she is a regular church goer. And you know what she said? It’s Ironically, I think we of the post-college crowd simply haven't paid the price to get it. We don't know how to talk to poor white people, we don't esteem them as equals, and, as a result, we largely haven't seriously tried to hear them out. |
