I wish this truly was the inhouse linux that google runs, but it seems to be independent:

gOS is an independent operating system devoted to making Google Applications and other free, web software more widespread and accessible to the world. gOS is not affiliated with Google or their partners.

Google should have stuck to the internet services and left the hardware side for the others (but who knows).

For $199 at Walmart? They can't go wrong with that. The trouble will only start when this OS doesn't turn out to be much of anything and more than a headache for an average Joe to understand and support.
