Just re-found my favorite pen, which had been missing for a couple of years. We went up to Berkeley so I could pick up a new bottle of ink for it today, and I had to refresh my memory of how to fill it.

Sad to say my favorite fountain pen came to an untimley demise by falling to the floor right on the nib. It was a beautiful Mont-Blanc designed by Leica in sleek black with a sterling silver nib.

Nothing is forever.

In grade school I learned penmanship using a pen with a nib and a bottle of ink to dip it in. Then I got my first fountain pen.

Twist the piston converter counterclockwise at the top. This forces the air out of the converter. Then twist the top of the piston converter clockwise to draw the ink up into the converter. While holding the nib above the bottle of ink, slowly twist the piston converter counterclockwise until a
bead of ink flows from the tip of the nib (Figure B). Gently blot excess ink from the nib with a lint-free
